Soil Foil
Soil Foil is a simple but effective way to get a crawl space clean and dry. Not only is this beneficial for the piping and suspension brackets under the floor, it’s also good for the floor itself and keeps a lot of moisture from entering the house. Less moisture in the house means less ventilation is needed. The result - one uses less heating.
Many homes were and are being built above a damp hole in the ground. Because of negative pressure, the house extracts air from the crawl space. The air that is drawn into the house carries with it the moisture and radon gas that escapes from the soil. The Building Code standard allows about 1.3 litres of moisture per day to enter the house under standard conditions. This moisture must be removed by additional ventilation. TONZON's Soil Foil has a vapour barrier effect of μd= 130 m and a very high radon barrier of D = (9.2±1.6).10¯¹²m²s¯¹ .
For crawl spaces that are regularly flooded, lay the Soil Foil on top of a layer of bubble wrap. This creates a floating effect so that the soil foil always remains above the rising water. The result is a significantly drier crawl space and no more musty odours.
